A few common questions before we get started.

Choosing a CPA is about more than finding someone to prepare a return. The right relationship depends on how your business operates, the support you need, and how you prefer to work together.

Here are answers to a few of the questions that often come up.

What services do you offer?

Purtee CPA works with business owners who need ongoing accounting and tax support. Every relationship begins with accurate bookkeeping and tax preparation. From there, support can grow to include proactive tax planning and strategic advisory as your needs change.

Do you work with clients who only need tax preparation?

For business clients, bookkeeping and tax preparation are the foundation of the relationship. I do not generally take on new business clients for tax preparation alone. Having accurate, up-to-date books throughout the year allows me to better understand your business and provide more useful guidance when questions or decisions come up.

What types of businesses do you work with?

I primarily work with small, owner-operated businesses that value accurate financial information and an ongoing relationship with their CPA. The specific industry is less important than the working relationship. The best fit is usually a business owner who communicates openly, is comfortable using technology, and wants someone they can talk with when questions or important decisions come up.

How do I know which level of support I need?

You do not need to figure that out before contacting me. Some business owners need dependable bookkeeping and tax preparation. Others benefit from more proactive tax planning or want someone to talk through important business decisions with. We will discuss what you need now, and the relationship can change as your business and needs evolve.

How much does it cost to work with Purtee CPA?

Pricing depends on the complexity of your business, the condition of your bookkeeping, and the level of ongoing support you need. Rather than publishing standard packages that may not fit your situation, I provide a quote after learning more about your business and reviewing the information necessary to understand the work involved.

What happens during the initial conversation?

The initial conversation is a short, approximately 15-minute discussion about your business, what you are looking for, and how I work. There is nothing you need to prepare beforehand. The purpose is simply to determine whether it makes sense for us to continue the conversation.

What information will you need before providing a quote?

Before providing a quote, I will generally need a copy of your most recent tax return and access to your current bookkeeping. We will typically have a second conversation as well so I can better understand your business, your current accounting and tax needs, and the level of support you are looking for.

Can I call you when I have a question?

Yes. In fact, I encourage it. Good advice is most useful when there is still time to act on it. If you are considering a significant purchase, hiring an employee, taking a distribution, or making another important business or financial decision, I would rather have the conversation before the decision is made.

How often will we meet or communicate?

That depends on what works best for you and the level of support you need. During the process of getting to know your business, we will discuss how often you would like to meet or communicate. Some clients need more frequent conversations, while others prefer to reach out as questions or decisions arise.

Do I need to use QuickBooks Online?

For ongoing bookkeeping relationships, QuickBooks Online is my preferred accounting platform. It allows us to work from the same current financial information and makes it easier to provide year-round support. If you are currently using another system, we can discuss that during the initial conversations.

Still have questions?

If you’re considering working with Purtee CPA, the best place to start is a short conversation about your business and what you’re looking for.
